Subhash U. Kini, MD, FRCS
Bariatric Surgeon, Mount Sinai Program for Surgical
Weight Loss
Background and Training
Dr.
Kini is an Assistant Professor of Surgery at the Mount
Sinai School of Medicine and serves as a minimally invasive
bariatric surgeon in the Mount Sinai Program for Surgical
Weight Loss. After training in the United Kingdom, he
was granted membership in all three of the Royal Colleges
of Surgeons. He subsequently completed a residency in
general surgery at New York Medical College's Our Lady
of Mercy Medical Center. In 2002, Dr. Kini joined the
Division of Laparoscopic Surgery at Mount Sinai as a
laparoscopic research fellow. He was appointed as an
Assistant Professor on the faculty of the Mount Sinai
School of Medicine in 2004.
Board Certification
Dr. Kini is certified by the American Board
of Surgery and is a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons.
He is an active member of the American Society for Bariatric
Surgery.
Surgical Experience
Dr. Kini has
been performing advanced laparoscopic surgery since
1995. He performs all the different types of weight
loss surgery including RNY gastric bypass, LAP-BAND®,
duodenal switch, sleeve gastrectomy, and revisional
procedures. His practice is focused primarily on advanced
Laparoscopic bariatric surgery. While he prefers the
laparoscopic, minimally invasive approach for the vast
majority of his procedures, he will still use open surgery
in certain situations.

Special Interests
Dr. Kini is currently performing research in
several areas of laparoscopic surgery including laparoscopic
colon surgery and minimally invasive bariatric procedures.
In addition to serving as an instructor in the Mount
Sinai Bariatric Workshop series, Dr. Kini has presented
at numerous national and international meetings, and
published extensively in leading surgical journals.
