The Mount Sinai Program for Surgical
Weight Loss Team
The Team Approach to Weight
Loss Surgery
Weight Loss Surgery is substantially different
from other types of general surgery. In addition to
working closely with your surgeon, you will work together
with a whole team of dedicated weight-loss surgery professionals.
Before your surgery, you will meet with your surgeon,
one of our nurses or physician assistants, a psychologist
or psychiatrist, a gastroenterologist, a nutritionist,
and possibly others.
It is only through a coordinated team
effort that we can obtain the best possible results!

How Does the Team Work Together?
When you first contact the Mount Sinai Program
for Surgical Weight Loss, you will speak with one of
our medical assistants who may ask you some questions
about your health background. You will be asked to complete
a comprehensive health questionnaire before your first
visit. The can be downloaded from our website (click
here to download) or mailed to you if needed.
When you arrive for your first visit,
you will meet Angela, our Nurse Practitioner who serves
as our Weight Loss Surgery Program Coordinator, and
one of our medical assistants. They will review your
health questionnaire to ensure that it is complete and
may ask you additional questions about your health history.
Afterwards, you will meet with one
of our team's surgeons, who will speak with you in considerable
depth about the different surgical options that are
available to you.
It is important to remember that there
is no "one best operation" for weight loss
that works for everybody. After carefully reviewing
your weight loss, medical, and surgical history, your
surgeon will be able to help you identify the best operation
for you.
